Top Ten Tuesday(2-12-13)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Each week,
they post a different topic, and you get to create your own top ten list. So, this week's
topic is:

Favorite Romances

1) Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy (Pride & Prejudice)- pretty much the greatest romance of all time. No explanation needed.

2) Jane and Rochester (Jane Eyre- I love Jane. She's one of my favorite heroines and her romance with Rochester is just wonderful. I love watching it blossom and Jane's struggle to still remain her own person.

3) Romeo and Juliet (Romeo & Juliet) - how do you make a romance list without these two? It's a tragic love story, but their brief romance is beautiful to read about.

4) Severus Snape and Lilly Potter (Harry Potter) - while their's is not a romance that actually occurred, it's so moving to learn about the depths that Snape went to because of his love for Lilly. And when you read about it, you can't help but be moved by how selfless he was, for all those years, for a woman who never reciprocated his feelings.

5) Emma and Dex (One Day) - I loved watching these two grow together, not only as a couple, but as individuals and friends.

6) Celia and Marco (The Night Circus) - this is such a well-crafted novel and the romance that grows between these two doesn't define the plot and doesn't take away from the story. And you can't choose between the two of them, so you don't know where the story is headed.

7) Katniss and Peeta (The Hunger Games) - watching these two grow as a couple over the course of this trilogy is heartwarming, especially when you take into account not only their circumstances, but their age. They are so young, so being able to experience those growing pains together adds to the story and makes you realize how great they are for one another.

8) Jacob and Marlena (Water for Elephants) - you know that these two are going to end up together, you are so anxious to see how it happens. The love that Jacob has for her is so great that it takes all of his patience to restrain himself.

9) Ciro and Enza (The Shoemaker's Wife) - this is a huge, epic, sweeping love story, spanning decades and continents. Trigiana is a great writer and pulls you into this story, and it gets to the point where you can't stop reading because it's so remarkable the love that these two share.

10) Paul and Julia Childs (Dearie) - so, these two aren't a fictional couple, but after reading this riveting biography this summer, you can't help but admire the relationship that these two had. They truly loved one another and it was great to read about their adventures together.

This was such a hard list to make! There are so many great romances, but picking my top ten was difficult! So, who made the cut on your list? Let me know!

  1. I had completely forgotten about Water for Elephants! And as far and Romeo and Juliet, I don't know... How well did they even know each other???
